Refund Guide
Lexus GAP Insurance Refund
Paid off your Lexus early? You may be owed a refund on your Guaranteed Auto Protection (GAP). Whether a refund is automatic depends on state law, the contract, and the payoff process — if you haven't received one, request a written calculation. Here is how to claim your money.
Refund Eligibility
If you pay off your Lexus loan early, end a lease early, sell, or trade in, you may be owed a prorated refund of the unused GAP charge. You generally have to request it.
Who Administers Lexus GAP
Lexus GAP is administered by Toyota Motor Insurance Services (TMIS). "Lexus Financial Services" is a service mark of Toyota Motor Credit, not a separate company, so Lexus GAP uses the same TMIS program and terms as Toyota GAP.
Because Lexus Financial Services is a brand of Toyota Motor Credit, your GAP is administered by TMIS, not by a separate Lexus entity. Refunds are not automatic.

When You Get a Refund

Traded your Lexus for a new car before loan maturity.
Total Loss
Car was totaled and insurance paid out (even if GAP didn't pay).
Calculate Your Lexus Refund
Enter your original contract date and payoff date. Our tool estimates the pro-rata amount you may be owed; your contract and state law control the final figure.
Free calculation · No signup · No card · Optional refund-demand letter only if you act.
Free-Look Window & How the Refund Is Calculated
A Lexus GAP-specific free-look window is not published. A 30-day full-refund window is the common industry and state-regulatory standard, but your agreement and state law control.
Refunds are prorated by the unused term per your contract. Some states require a method no less favorable than the Rule of 78s. The exact formula is in your agreement.

Regulatory & Legal Context
The November 2023 CFPB order requiring Toyota Motor Credit to pay $60 million covered Lexus Financial Services accounts too, citing failure to refund unearned GAP premiums and a retention hotline. The consent order was terminated in May 2025; your right to request a refund remains.
Lexus GAP Refund FAQs
Is Lexus GAP different from Toyota GAP?
No. Lexus Financial Services is a brand name used by Toyota Motor Credit, and the GAP product is administered by TMIS under both brands using the same program. There is no separate Lexus-only GAP company.
Was Lexus involved in the 2023 CFPB GAP action?
Yes. The action was titled against Toyota Motor Credit, which operates both Toyota and Lexus Financial Services. The $60 million in redress and penalties covered customers under both brands, including failures to refund unearned GAP premiums.
I paid off my Lexus early. Will the refund come automatically?
Generally no. You typically must contact TMIS at 1-800-255-8713 or the tmisvpp.com portal to request the prorated refund and provide payoff documentation.
